A pair of Zildjian factory-matched 20″ Germanic Symphonic hand (crash) cymbals
These cymbals are pitch-matched at the Zildjian factory. They have a bright, clear sound, sufficient to cut through strong ensemble playing, yet with a rhythmically sharp ‘splash’ at low dynamic levels.
Price: $450. As new, they cost from $950 – $1050. The price includes: leather straps (normally around $30 each), leather pads (normally $40 each), a solid cymbal case (usually about $200 for hand cymbals) with internal rubber cushioning, and a solid Dixon cradle (normally worth $130). So the extras (as new) are worth over $400 alone.
One of the cymbals has a very small ‘dint’ on the edge that does not affect the sound in any way.

Adams Professional timpani – 26” & 29”
These are superb drums, amongst the most respected in the contemporary orchestral world. The tone produced is rich and full, the intonation excellent and reliable. The pedals use a ‘balanced spring’ mechanism, similar to Ludwig Symphonics, but with a greater range. Adams can achieve a seventh on a good day, sometimes even an octave. This makes the Adams timpani more versatile, allowing for a greater range of uses, whether on stage or in the pit.
Both timpani have gauges attached to the side of the bowl, with clear, easy-to-read letters for pitch guidance even in very low lighting.
Included in the package: 1) thick, protective Adams covers; 2) disc lids carefully made from solid plywood, with a felt pad on the underside for contact with the head, offering a high degree of protection; 3) two replacement heads (second hand); 4) two tuning keys, securely clamped in holders in the bases.
Price: the price for this excellent set of timpani is $7200. By comparison, the more recent version of the Adams Professional timpani cost around $11,000 for the pair.
Summary: this is an excellent set of timpani, combining the ease of Ludwig pitch changing (via the ‘balanced spring’ mechanism) with the extended pitch range similar to Premier drums. They are in first-rate condition, come with covers, solid lids and spare heads, and have a richness of tone that will enhance any large or small orchestral, or solo, performance. These timpani have been played to great effect with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, the Melbourne Philharmonia, and musicals such as Sunset Boulevard, amongst others.
