The Hyde Street Youth Band, located in Footscray, Melbourne, is currently seeking applications for the position of Director of Music/Conductor.
HSYB currently has 35 members with all positions full including percussion. The band is the oldest youth band in Australia and is the current Victorian and National Junior C Grade Champions. The band is a community based bands managed by an active volunteer committee who is always keen to involve the Musical Director in the planning and decision making process.
The Musical Director/Conductor will be responsible for directing the HSYB which rehearses on Wednesday evening from 7.00 to 8.30pm. They will also be expected to be involved with performances and competitions including the State and National Championships in 2017 (Launceston) and 2018 (Melbourne) which HSYB has already planned to attend. Additional support is available for local festival conducting and less important events as well as a Band Major for Marches.
HSYB shares a band room with the A Grade Footscray Yarraville City Band and Western Brass with whom we also share a good relationships not to mention some equipment. The members of FYCB also assist at times with mentoring our members especially in the lead up to combined events such as the Yarraville Carols in the Park.
The ideal candidate would have past experience in the education of youth musicians. The ability to relate yet remain respected by the band members has been integral to the success of the past and a trait we are very keen to maintain. Whilst an honorarium is offered, the driver must be the love of music and the reward from developing the musical talent of youth.
Applications should be made in the first instance to David Greilach, President Hyde Street Youth Band including a resume via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. A current Working with Children check is a mandatory requirement, a copy of which should be included with you application. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the President, David Greilach on 0419 527 120.
