Over the weekend of 17th and 18th August, 2013, 27 bands participated in the Victorian State Band Championships. This is out largest number of bands since 2008 (also 27 bands). A complete list of results is now available on the results page.
Special congratulations to Jack Kelly as the 2013 recipient of the Frank Wright Medal.
Jack began his music career aged 11 at the Collingwood Technical School in 1940. Since then he has played with a further 5 bands; Melbourne Advent Brass, City of Heidelberg, Preston Municipal, Kew Band and Darebin City Brass – Northern Brass.
For the last 21 years he has been very involved and pro-active in promoting and teaching youth in brass, both in schools and community bands. He is currently the Musical Director of the Darebin City Brass Youth Group.

The League extends hearty congratulations to Jack Butcher on the occasion of his receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 1999 Australia Day Awards. Jack has had a long association with the VBL as a both a Musical Director and as a Champion flugel horn player. The award was given “for service to the community through brass bands and choirs”.
