After the successful launch of Bandstand Sunday in 2015, the Victorian Bands’ League is pleased to announce that Bandstand Sunday is back for 2016!
The event features bands from around Victoria performing at Federation Square in Melbourne throughout the day from 10am to 5pm. Bands will be allocated around 30 minutes each to perform, including getting on and off stage. This is purely a concert entertainment program with no set music, however we would encourage bands to feature soloists in their program. There is no adjudication for this event; it is not a competition and therefore contest and registration rules do not apply. This is a free event and all bands are welcome to apply.
We are currently seeking expressions of interests for bands to be part of the entertainment on Sunday 6th November, and we would particularly like to encourage member bands from country and regional areas to participate in this concert extravaganza.
Please indicate your bands interest in participating in this event with an email to firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 5th September 2016.
The VBL Executive hopes that this event sparks the interest of your band, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
Please note: Places are limited and last year demand far exceeded the number of spots available so please get in early! Priority will be given to bands who did not perform last year.
The Hyde Street Youth Band, located in Footscray, Melbourne, is currently seeking applications for the position of Director of Music/Conductor.
HSYB currently has 35 members with all positions full including percussion. The band is the oldest youth band in Australia and is the current Victorian and National Junior C Grade Champions. The band is a community based bands managed by an active volunteer committee who is always keen to involve the Musical Director in the planning and decision making process.
The Musical Director/Conductor will be responsible for directing the HSYB which rehearses on Wednesday evening from 7.00 to 8.30pm. They will also be expected to be involved with performances and competitions including the State and National Championships in 2017 (Launceston) and 2018 (Melbourne) which HSYB has already planned to attend. Additional support is available for local festival conducting and less important events as well as a Band Major for Marches.
HSYB shares a band room with the A Grade Footscray Yarraville City Band and Western Brass with whom we also share a good relationships not to mention some equipment. The members of FYCB also assist at times with mentoring our members especially in the lead up to combined events such as the Yarraville Carols in the Park.
The ideal candidate would have past experience in the education of youth musicians. The ability to relate yet remain respected by the band members has been integral to the success of the past and a trait we are very keen to maintain. Whilst an honorarium is offered, the driver must be the love of music and the reward from developing the musical talent of youth.
Applications should be made in the first instance to David Greilach, President Hyde Street Youth Band including a resume via email to email@example.com. A current Working with Children check is a mandatory requirement, a copy of which should be included with you application. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the President, David Greilach on 0419 527 120.
The 2016 State Band Championships will be held at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Ballarat. Tickets are available at the door.
