PARADE OF BANDS - LATEST INFORMATION

The Parade of Bands will take place on the morning of Saturday 7th April 2007 in Burgundy Street, Heidelberg. This is a well frequented shopping centre about 2 Km North of the main Contest venue, The Centre Ivanhoe. As well as being part of the Championships, the Street March is intended to publicise the Championships to the general public.
A brief Opening Ceremony will take place on the Saluting Base at 8:55 am.
When reading the detailed instructions that follow, please refer to the map of the area.
Marchers are arrive in area from 8:30 am. Cars are to arrive travelling North in Lower Heidelberg Road, turn left into Darebin Street, proceed West to Hawdon Street. Cars turn left into Cartmell Street, and proceed to parking area on right. Passengers proceed on foot to locale of allocated inspection area (North or South), whence they will be called at the proper time to form up for inspection. Cars unable to enter car park are to park on either side of Cartmell Street, further overflow into areas in Darebin and Hawdon Streets.
Buses are to approach travelling North via either Upper Heidelberg Road or Studley Road, turn right into Burgundy Street, under the railway bridge and turn right into Mount Street, then left to park in Yarra Street on North side, proceeding towards Cape Street in order of arrival. Band personnel may leave bus in Mount Street and walk down Burgundy Street to assembly area, or leave bus at corner of Yarra & Hawdon Streets, and walk North up Hawdon Street to assembly area. As bands complete the march, personnel are to walk South in Cape Street to embus and leave the area as quickly as possible. Bus queue is to move up to East end of Yarra Street as required. Buses leaving turn right into Cape Street, returning via Banksia Street and Upper/Lower Heidelberg Roads.
All participants are NOT to park in Shopping Centre car parks.

Bands will March Off in the order of the Saturday Draw for their Grade
Bands will assemble in Hawdon Street, EVEN drawn Bands NORTH of Burgundy Street and ODD drawn bands SOUTH of Burgundy Street.
A name banner for each band has been supplied by the NSW Band Association. White Horse Brass & Whitehorse Junior Brass players will carry the banners
The first two bands in D grade must be ready to be inspected at 8:45 am. Two bands are to be inspected at the same time, one at the Northern side of Burgundy Street and one on the Southern Side of Burgundy Street. The front rank for inspection will be marked with five dots. Once bands have finished the inspection they move in formation into the intersection of Burgundy & Hawdon Streets. The position of each person up to 25 will be marked on the road.

Bands will step off at 2.5 minute intervals on the order of the Adjudicator. The Saluting Base will be on the right hand (South) side of Burgundy Street approximately 100 paces from the start. Bands continue to march down Burgundy Street a further 166 paces to the intersection of Cape Street, where they are to perform a change of direction to the left, continuing a further 50 paces to the finish line. The band will halt only when the entire band has crossed the finish line. Bands must play throughout the entire march. They must cease playing immediately when they halt. They must not play to the end of the strain.
Results of the Parade of Bands will be announced with the rest of the band events after the on stage performance is complete.
Drum Majors are advised that there will be a Drum Majors meeting on Friday 6th April, at 8.00pm in the Conder Room of the Centre Ivanhoe.
