Test pieces are selected for the National Championships which competitors in some sections of competition must perform, whether as their sole piece or as one of a number of items. This is done for a number of reasons, one of which is to provide a point of reference for the adjudicator reviewing performances in these sections.
The adjudicators are appointed to judge the efforts of competitors, awarding the title of National Champion of individual sections in doing so.
The chief adjudicators for the 2007 Championships have been named as the following:
Brass Bands - Mr Ken MacDonald
Before coming to Australia 20 years ago Ken MacDonald was principal cornet with Grimethorpe and assistant principal cornet with Black Dyke. He has since conducted Hawthorn Brass Band to five Australian Championships as well as the 1994 North American title.
Mr MacDonald has adjudicated widely around Australia and is one of the country's most respected adjudicators.
Concert Bands - Major Graham Lloyd
Major Lloyd is currently the commanding chief instructor at the Defence Force School of Music. A prolific composer and arranger of music for orchestra, brass and concert bands, his Prelude for a Festival won the 1988 Yamaha Composer of the Year award.
Chief Drill Adjudicator - Keith Moore
Mr Moore has been associated with many bands over the past 30 years as a Drum Major and has conducted training clinics and adjudicated throughout Australia.
