INAUGURAL MORELAND SLOW MELODY CONTEST ATTRACTS QUALITY FIELD

FOR 30 SEPTEMBER 2007

Posted 24 September 2007

Over 40 brass soloists will compete in the inaugural Moreland Slow Melody Contest on Sunday 30th September at the Brunswick Town Hall, Sydney Road, Brunswick.

The competition commences at 9 am with the juvenile junior and senior novice events in the first session.

Nearly half of the entrants will be competing for the first time or returning to competition from lengthy breaks.

A highlight of the morning will be the Championship Section, where Victoria s finest soloists will compete for a first prize that includes $100.00. The field includes 2007 Victorian Champion of Champions Steve Ford of the very successful Kew Band Melbourne, and former principal cornet of the Hawthorn Band and multi championship winner David Barker, returning to solo competition for the Bell Post Hill Band.

A special competitor is Gavin Herdman of Brass Wanganui (New Zealand), in town to attend the Melbourne International Festival of Brass.

Contest Director Sandra Pope said that the contest organisers are delighted with the response, and are looking forward to enjoying some very fine performances on the day. They are delighted that Moreland City Band is again leading the way in our banding community through the introduction of another event to the contesting calendar.

Further details of the event can be found on the Moreland City Band website, www.morelandcityband.com.au, or log on to www.4barsrest.com/downunder and follow the links.

Entry is by programme, available on the day, and costs $5.
